What Can I Expect For My First Visit?

The first visit to Prestige Medical Laser is a free consultation in which we talk about the features, benefits and risks associated with laser hair removal.

Step One As with any medical procedure, there are certain risks involved with laser hair removal. The very first thing a client can expect as part of their free initial consultation is an education in what laser hair removal is all about. We have each person read a Frequently Asked Questions document, and then fill out a questionnaire edited by the FDA. This include information about medications and medical history (download questionnaire now). Then each person must read the consent form that highlights risks, and then we require that each person sign the consent that they have read and understand the risks.

Step Two After the paperwork is completed, we then provide each potential client with a 15 minutes consultation, totally free of charge. This initial consultation entails both an explanation and demonstration of our laser equipment. We talk to patients about why we use the equipment we use, and we explain exactly how laser hair removal works. We talk about contraindications for laser, and worst scenario side effects. We talk about effectiveness (90% guarantee), general services, and the price for their particular hair removal treatment. We talk about before care and after care, and then answer any questions. Then we do a spot test for the client, so they can see and feel how the laser hair removal works.

Step Three If a client wants to proceed, they have a choice to proceed immediately, or we can make a future appointment for them to begin their treatment. Most treatments take 4-6 visits to complete.

Before Treatment: Important Things To Know

  • The best candidates for hair removal are lighter skinned people with darker hair. However, the CoolGlide may be used on darker skinned people and tanned patients. A laser specialist will evaluate the patient’s skin type prior to treatment at the initial visit.
  • People with blond or light red hair should expect to see less results than people with dark hair.
  • Four to six treatments, spaced approximately 4 to 5 weeks apart, are generally necessary to assure the best results.
  • A day or two of hair growth permits the treatment areas to be easily identified.
  • Remove all make-up prior to facial treatments.
  • If a patient has been on the medications Accutane, Gold Therapy or RetinA during the last 6 months, they may not be treated.

After Treatment: What You Will Need To Do

  • Avoid bathing or washing with very hot water. Use tepid water. You may feel like you have a mild to moderate sunburn. Minor crusting or minor peeling of the surface layers of the skin is not unusual. Over the counter Hydocortisone Cream and Aloe Vera Gel may help with redness or inflamation of your skin.
  • Keep the area clean. Wash gently.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure after your treatment. If you do go in the sun, protect the treated area with a sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher.
  • Do not shave the treated area for at least 4 days after treatment. Do not wax, pluck or use depilatories for the hair that grows back. After laser treatment, hair may continue to grow out as if it were never even treated. Typically this will occur for about 2 weeks and then these hairs will simply begin to fall out.
  • Avoid any irritating medications or chemicals, particularly on the face. Examples of these are Retin-A, Benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid or astringents.
  • Use Cortisone: In case of irritation.
  • Use Triple Antiobiotic: In case of a blister.
